Master Bathroom with Freestanding Tub in Golden

Beige concrete-look large-format porcelain floor flowing under a freestanding soaking tub and glass shower in a Golden, CO master bathroom

About This Project

This master bathroom in a custom Golden home was designed around a freestanding oval soaking tub positioned between the shower enclosure and the window. The floor tile, a large-format beige concrete-look matte porcelain, needed to flow continuously under and around both the tub and the shower enclosure base. That required careful planning of the tile layout so no awkward cuts would be visible at the base of the tub.

The shower enclosure in this project had a wood slat partition wall as its visual focal point. We tiled the shower walls in a gray concrete-look porcelain that complemented the floor tile while providing contrast to the wood element. The shower floor was sloped to the linear drain using a mortar bed, and sheet waterproofing was applied to the walls and floor of the shower before any tile. Given Golden's foothills climate, movement joints were installed at the perimeter of the floor field and at the threshold between the shower and the main bathroom area.
